What is GCHQ?
A key part of British Intelligence, GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters) works closely with MI5 and MI6 to combat the threats facing both the UK and the global community. Using some of the world’s most sophisticated technology we intercept communications and electronic signals from our headquarters in Cheltenham. This information is then turned into intelligence, which supports our government in the fight against terrorism, serious crime and attacks on vital infrastructure, in turn protecting the UK, its people and institutions.
What are the roles?
Of course, our work is vital and uses a wide range of technical experts. But we can’t do it without the support of our Administration support staff and PA’s to keep us organised. Our Administration staff cover a wide range of duties such as processing data, and general secretarial support which requires discretion and initiative. Our PA’s provide dedicated admin support to senior GCHQ management, these are key roles in ensuring the smooth organisational functioning of GCHQ. We are looking for candidates with a good level of education (five GCSE’s at Grade C or above including English and Maths) or demonstrable relevant experience.
What’s the working environment like?
GCHQ is a unique and challenging place to work. We’re responsible for £multi-million budgets and employ the very latest technology across a wide range of activities. The sheer scale and importance of our operation forms a unique backdrop to all of our roles, however we are a friendly and supportive group of people who believe in teamwork.
What are the benefits of working at GCHQ?
Knowing that you’re part of an organisation that helps make the world a safer place is a particularly rewarding proposition, but that is just the start of what we’re offering. Our training and development opportunities are first rate. There’s room to grow, with roles at all levels and across a wide range of disciplines. Our salaries are competitive and backed by a generous pension. And we’re open to a variety of flexible working arrangements too, so you can fit in what’s important for you with what’s important to us...each and every one of us.
